Ten questions we are asked before someone books us — including the two that come up every time: whether the plant will survive the cut, and whether the cuttings leave with us.
Do you decide how much to cut, or do I?
Together. You say what you want the garden to look like and we say what the plant will take. Species, season, how far it has grown out and where it stands all set the limit. If a hedge will not hold the height you want, we will say so before we start rather than cut it hard and leave you with a bare side.
Are the cuttings taken away?
Yes. Cuttings and green waste are sacked as we work and taken away on the same visit. Anything that has to be carted off site is accounted for in the quote, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay.
How often does a hedge need cutting?
Most garden hedges want one main cut a year to hold their line, plus a lighter trim if it is a fast grower. Hedging that flowers is cut after flowering, not before, or you lose the flowers for the year.
Will the hedge grow back after a hard cut?
If it is cut into the last healthy growth, yes. Taken below that line into bare old wood, most conifers will not regrow. That is why the height is agreed first and kept above the dead zone.
Do you work on commercial or communal grounds?
No. We work on private residential gardens only. If you manage a site commercially, we are not the right fit and will say so straight away.
Do you take on large trees or felling?
No. We prune small garden trees from the ground. Felling, stump removal and any rope or harness work belongs with a qualified tree surgeon, and we will refer you rather than take it on.
Is there a charge for coming out to quote?
No. The visit to look at the garden is free and carries no obligation. You get one written figure for the scope, and a date if you want the work done.
How soon can you come?
It depends on the season and how far out the round is booked. Tell us your postcode and what needs doing and we will give you the next date that fits.
What happens to the green waste?
It leaves with us on the day and is disposed of properly. Nothing is stacked at the side of the house or tipped in a corner of the garden.
Can I book a one-off visit instead of regular ones?
Yes. A single tidy-up, a clearance or a one-off hedge cut are all fine. Regular visits are there if you want the garden held to a standard through the season, not a requirement.
